Liputan KRAKATAU CONCERT ‘the Rhythms of Indonesia’ , Beijing:

Yamko Rambe Yamko dan Ilir-ilir membahana di Beijing Concert Hall

Perhelatan konser musik Indonesia , The Rhythms of Indonesia, yang dilaksanakan pada tanggal 7 Nopember kemarin lalu sukses diselenggarakan.

Sementara dari Tiongkok turut mewarnai pentas ini World Music Ensemble of Central Conservatory of Music dan Asia Harmony Orchenstra.

Farabi Music Education Institution (LPM Farabi) is not merely a music education institution. It is a large cohesive family that has great passion for music and wishes to share the brilliance of music with the general society. On 2 September 2007, they will enthusiastically present a beautiful gift laced with swaying harmony in the form of a concert held in Jakarta ’s Art Building (GKJ). Titled ‘A Gift of Harmony’, the concert involves the ‘children’ of the Farabi Music Education Institution ‘family’. These young individuals will be showcasing their skills through performances of classical music and also modern music with an acoustic twist.

Shinta Lestarini and Feby Sukova Nevizond (duo piano) will present ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk’ (composed by Dave Brubeck and arranged by ‘father’ Dwiki Dharmawan) and ‘Janger’ (arrangement by Dwiki Dharmawan). Azzahra Sabina Tohir, Rizky R. Argadipraja, M. Danang Prananda and Taufik Ramadhanu of Children Guitar Quartet, will showcase ‘Santarello’. There will also be a Piano Four Hand by Priska and Citra, who will be playing Japanese folk song ‘Cuckoo’. A composition by Antonio Vivaldi ‘Concerto Grosso’ is packaged in a Seven Guitar performance by Adi Rahmat, Rahmat Kusnadi, Heri Budiono, Wawan, Andang, Yoshua Refi and Donal Saputra. ‘Farabi Acoustic Connection’ consisting of Agam Hamzah, Indra, Yossie and Eril, ‘Farabi Strings Ensemble and Choir’ nurtured by Amir Katamsi and senior-junior musician collaboration ‘Farabi All Stars and the Next Generation’ comprising of Adi Darmawan, Agam Hamzah, Dwiki Dharmawan, Gerry Herb, Jeane Phialsa, Shadu, Ozzy, Gopaz, Zainal Arifin, Sefrino, Iwan Hasan, Ubiet alongside their students from Farabi will also be a part of the musical carnival.

In the spirit of warm and touching family nuance, the ‘family’ wishes to recognize the elders which have patiently and loyally dedicated themselves as music practitioners and educators. The recognition is bestowed to JB Harmonianto, Roelly Budiono, Oele Pattiselanno and the late Prahayawan Prabowo.

If our musical expressions receive such tremendous support by the large family that is Farabi, we are truly proud to be a part of this family. With great pride, we exclaim “Yes, let’s continue this musical exploration!”

On 24 August 2007, Farabi Music Education institute held a musical exhibition featuring bands consisting of its pupils from various branches such as Dharmawangsa, Bintaro, Hang Lekir, Kelapa Gading, Cempaka Mas, Bogor and Cibubur. Taking place in Bugs Café in Pondok Indah, ‘Farabi Music Day 2’ was overcrowded with Farabi students alongside with their friends and families. From those coming to witness the show, to those supporting and rooting for their performing friends, the event was a riot. The ten finalists competing for top position were Selonia, Ji Yu, Limited Edition, R.W.H., Hekta, Reverse, D’Aiya, White Heaven, Azel & Friend and Potenzio. For the occasion, the final ten bands showcased their own songs and creativity in arrangements. Their performances were appraised by a panel of judges comprising of Nyak Ina Raseuki (Ubiet), Bens Leo and Dwiki Dharmawan. It was an absolutely special opportunity! As usual, the performances are graded based on originality, harmony, arrangement, technique and overall performance. Apart from choosing the best five bands, judges also voted for the best vocalist, drummer, keyboardist, guitarist and bassist.

As ‘Farabi Music Day’ itself is an annual tradition, the event (this year sponsored by Coca Cola and Nokia) also involved the best three bands from previous year’s ‘Farabi Music Day 1’, Captain Hook, D’Interyo and Flinstone. Teen drummer Raffi and Joshua Suherman Hattrick Band (former child singer Joshua’s band) also flaunted their musical talent at the event. Joshua performed his childhood hits “Diobok-obok” and a traditional Javanese songs, interestingly, with a rock twist. There was also a performance by six bassists, all Farabi graduates that are now a member of popular bands. With Parkdrive’s Rayendra (also a former Farabi student) on drums, under the leadership of Berry Likumahua (bassist to Gren Fredly) the six bassists performed two songs with their own vibrant and unique style.

nugen-band.jpg

Also during the event, ‘Farabi Music Day 1’ album, released by Musikita Records, was released. They album features performances by the ten finalist bands from ‘Farabi Music Day 1’. In addition to Captain Hook, D’Interyo and Flinstone, other participating bands include Lamp Band, Green Light, Red, Banana Split, Vodka and Dago Percussion. Don’t miss Farabi graduates’ musical action. Someday, they probably would be ’s renowned musicians. It’s great that Farabi gave them the chance to express their musical passion!

Bens Leo, ’s music observer, mentioned that Indonesian musicians dominate the music airwaves of neighboring countries such as and . Hence, the ‘birth’ of young musicians from an institution as Farabi is hoped to spawn next generation musicians to continue the prowess of their seniors. This is not impossible, as Dwiki Dharmawan, the institution’s owner, is presently working on a world-class project which involves foreign musicians.

Press Release Peluncuran Album KanDe “Meukondroe”
(Bila Bukan Kita, Siapa?)

dwiki-rafly.jpg

Awal Sebuah Penjelajahan

Ketika Tuhan Berkehendak, maka kita, manusia, tak pernah tahu bagaimana bermulanya.

KanDe pun memiliki misi:

aim-logo.jpg

A performance and workshop was presented by the Indonesian prestigious musician Dwiki Dharmawan and Ade Rudiana, both are the members of Krakatau on the 27th March to the students and staff of the Australian Institute of Music. The performance began at 4.30 P.M and lasted one and a half hours.

The performers introduced Indonesian styled jazz through two very exciting pieces, followed by a lively question and answer session. The concert concluded with a combined Australian/Indonesian piece performed by members of Krakatau and various staff and students from The Australian Institute of Music.

The performance was extremely well received by all and proved to be highly educational by providing an insight into traditional and contemporary Indonesian instruments in combination with ‘western’ instrumentation. Dwiki Dharmawan explained in great detail the application of Indonesian scales and tuning in jazz and contemporary performance. He demonstrated the Kendang’s relationship with western drum kit through a performance with Deva Permana.

It was particularly pleasing to hear a former Australian Institute of Music students, Deva Permana and current teacher Wendy Anggerani performing with the group. Overall it was a remarkable event, highly entertaining and educational in many ways.

The Australian Institute of Music was thrilled to present the concert and we are very interested in establishing formal musical and educational collaborations with performers and educational institutions in Indonesia.
